Welcome to the 2014-2015 School Year. We are all looking forward to a great opening and year ahead.
A few reminders for tomorrow, the first day of classes. On Tuesday, September 2nd, students in grades 10 - 12 will report directly to their first period class at 7:42 following a DAY 1 schedule. Students are encouraged to log on to their Aspen accounts to access and record/print their current updated schedules as some changes may have been made. (Remember to change the 'View" to "Full Year") A very essential reminder for all students is to bring their schedules with them on September 2nd , as you will be reporting to your period B class (DAY 1) at 7:42 am. If you are scheduled for a study hall first period on Tuesday (DAY 1), please report to the cafeteria. All freshmen, grade 9, will begin their day in the auditorium @ 7:42 for participation in orientation. There will be a homeroom/advisory period @ 8:39 am on Tuesday, September 2nd. (Homeroom numbers located on the top of the student schedule.) I look forward to seeing all the smiling faces on Tuesday morning. Have a great weekend! September 2nd will be here before we know it. Teachers and staff have been slowly making their way back into the building getting their classrooms and materials prepared for the first day. The teachers I have spoken to have shared some pretty exciting plans for teaching and learning - I look forward to all that is ahead of us.
Triton High School students are very excited about their upcoming presentation of Young Frankenstein. Please try to take in one of the four productions this coming week - you will not be disappointed.
As we enter the holiday season, I encourage you to start your Thanksgiving Day here at the home Football game. Come and cheer for the team before you gather for the holiday. Then on Thursday, December 19th you are invited to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the holiday rush, and come to the Winter Concert in the high school auditorium. I assure you, you will be pleased that you have "gone out another night." Hope to see you there! Please join me on Wednesday, December 4th from 6:30 - 7:30 pm in the high
school, room H201, our College and Career Center for an informal exchange with myself and other parents. Hope to see you there. TEACH, a documentary by Academy Award winner, Davis Guggenheim (the director and executive producer of An Inconvenient
Truth and the controversial Waiting for 'Superman'),airs this Friday night on CBS. It explores the simple question, "What is a teacher?" I have not seen this myself, but I plan on viewing. I hope others will have the opportunity. TEACH FRIDAY, SEPT 6TH ON CBS 8pm ET/PT ... 7pm MT/CT watch the trailer at: www.takepart.com/teach This new film from Oscar winner Davis Guggenheim asks the deceptively simple question What is a Teacher? The answer unfolds from inside the classrooms of 4 public school teachers. Experience the hearts and minds of America's greatest resource: teachers. It's important for students to get their year off to a good start. Although high school students are expected to be more independent, more focused, and more responsible, it is essential that students know they are supported and that we are working together to help them be successful. During the first few weeks of school, I encourage parents to check in regularly with their child - making sure that they are doing well in their classes, and that they're taking every opportunity to get involved in school activities. Don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher for information related to curriculum inquiries, class expectations, or homework requirements.
Welcome to the 2013-2014 School Year. Everyone knows the importance of teacher/parent and parent/teacher communication. Please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher at any time throughout the school year - whether it be for clarification of an assignment, requirements for an upcoming assessment, inquiries related to curriculum, or to generally gather information related to classroom/academic expectations. The more we know, the better able we will be to ensure that our students have what they need to be successful! This video from TED talks is a thought-provoking reminder of how students learn and what we can do to help them. Thought it was worth watching as we begin a new school year. |
